My husband, who is in the Navy, was recently transferred to Newport News, Virginia and that’s why we looked online for apartments in Newport News VA. He’s a lifer, so we’ve lived all over the country and in several foreign countries. Unfortunately, that means we have always lived on a naval base. Don’t get me wrong: there is nothing wrong with living on a military base. In many ways it is better than living in the city. It is more secure, for one thing, which is no small thing these days. But we really wanted to get our own place for this transfer.
So we looked online for off base living accommodations and quickly located an apartment complex that looked very promising. We needed an apartment because buying a house when your spouse is on active duty just isn’t an option. We would have to sell in a few years and lose our shirts. So what we needed was a nice two bedroom apartment that would give us lots of space. I wanted the additional room because I work from home and I could use it as an office for my desk and computer. Fortunately our search didn’t take long.
The apartment complex we decided upon is very nice. They had different floor plans available and that’s nice because you always want options. They’ve got nice amenities, such as an on site laundry facility, and also a pool. We also liked their pet policy as I’m a cat person and we do have our ten year old cat, Max, who needs his space to roam. Our visit went off without a hitch and we signed the agreement that day. The apartment is so cozy that we are wondering why we never made the decision to live off the base before. We won’t live on one again!
